'A Future Sentiment' explores the need for a future of more sustainable design through a seasonless Men's and Womenswear collection.
The pandemic has shocked our society into the realisation that the lifestyles we have been so accustomed to cannot be sustained for much longer. The modern person is now required to become more socially, environmentally, and politically aware. The threat that the pandemic poses to us is a push for the fashion industry to slow down, move away from mass production and change direction before we are faced with an even larger problem. My seasonless men’s and womenswear collection considers the longevity of the clothing we have in our wardrobes and presents itself as a more sustainable option to consumers. Sourcing remnant, surplus and sustainable fabrics without compromising on quality have been key to maintaining the integrity of this project. By using traditional techniques such as quilting, patchwork and applique to create bespoke pieces that the owners will cherish forever my collection express a sentimentality for the past through the use of these historical techniques creates a desire to mend, tailor, repurpose and lend them, making these items a sustainable staple in a wardrobe. By using a colour palette of blues and warm earth tones this collection aims to nurture the soul and evoke a sense of hope and excitement for the future. This collection is a positive reminder that if we look after the earth, the earth will look after us.
