Motion - Sample
Motion - part of a series of photographs taken in motion
I took images whilst walking, zooming in and out, spinning and jolting the camera in random movements, often not looking through the viewfinder. This way of photographing enabled me to create abstract unexpected images.
Light and Shadow - Film photograph
The following images are from my first semester’s womenswear collection, exploring different qualities of light and the way shadows warp, cling and bend around surfaces.

Miriam Majer
In all aspects of my life I strive to create. In my work to date I have been curious about how to use different mediums and techniques to represent the world around me as I see it.
Having followed the ‘Multi-Media Textiles’ pathway, I have been exposed to a broad range of processes. This has facilitated the experimental approach that underpins my work, producing designs for fashion intended to be worn in performance. Consideration is given to how the garments interact with movement, lighting and space and how they are viewed from different perspectives. Often my designs are intended to represent an artistic approach rather than pure functionality. My final degree show collection titled Motion includes designs with abstract brush marks and splats drawing inspiration from action painters such as Jackson Pollock. The collection also includes loose threads and lightweight materials that are intended to move with the wearer.
My strengths include photography which forms the visual basis of all my projects. I can look at a photograph and see the possibilities of developing the ideas and combining processes into textile outcomes. I often include either photograms or cyanotypes in my work. My final collection involves the use of numerous techniques including cyanotypes, hand printing, laser cutting, digital embroidery and hand processes.
The possible career paths I am interested in pursuing are in the fields of photography, fashion design and acting.
