Screen Printed Half-Drop Repeat Length 1
This Print is a half-drop repeat of which involves 4 layers of pigment onto a cotton drill. It's a statement print inspired by the Barbican with references to 'Memphis' design through various motifs, these motifs can be seen on other prints in the collection. A screen-printed half drop like this requires much precision and accuracy, it enabled Jazz to come out of her comfort zone.
Screen Printed Half-Drop Repeat length 2
This print is a half-drop repeat involving 4 layers. It is extracted elements from original digital designs and primary imagery which have then been curated into a statement repeat. This process involved printing the negative space which creates a clean and precise print. The motifs are geometric and are extracted from primary imagery and research into modernist buildings with references to the 80's movement 'Memphis' through the stripes and bold structural elements.
Digital Statement Print
This design is a playful digital design with multiple references to Memphis with the chequered design and vibrant colour choice alongside its bold linear qualities. This is a regular block repeat statement design and is a medium scale printed onto textured linen. This was featured on an 80s original Lurashell chair to tie in with my main inspiration.
Digital Co-ordinate Print
Here I have another digital design to accompany my chequered 'Memphis' print. Featured are extracted motifs from my first screen printed length, these are fun and colourful motifs inspired by the 80s design movements co-ordinate designs, combined with textural qualities found within nature. The chosen fabric is a structural Linen, this fabric choice is best suited for upholstery.
Upholstered Original 'Lurashell' 80s chairs
Here you can see the playful co-ordinate and more structural statement print. Jazz had them both upholstered onto Lurashell chairs and had to engineer the prints to the design of the chair in order for them to flow and look professional.
Digital Co-ordinate Cushion
This design is a simplistic co-ordinate with many linear qualities. It featured on a square design cushion and will be placed in seating areas in the co-working office space.
Office Space Featuring my Chair Designs and Coordinates to accompany them
This is a visualisation featuring a variety of Jazz' final prints for her collection. The co-working office space is a large open space with multiple references to 80s design with the chequered flooring and terrazzo tabletops. The chair designs fit well in this space and work well as a pair alongside the co-ordinate cushion designs.
Digital Statement Wallpaper
This is a statement digital design of which is a block repeat structure to create a rhythm and flow. Its bold yet simple design is featured on large open walls in the co-working office space.
Jazz Stokes
Jazz is a passionate graduate who's creative flare is influenced by colour and form. This project enabled her to explore and delve deep into the architectural world and the natural world. Her main source of inspiration throughout her final studies being 80s design, this being the well known 'Memphis' Design movement.
Jazz's collection is for a co-working office interior space with strong references to 80s interior design through its stylised approach. The office is a space where workers can go to feel inspired and be surrounded by geometric and graphic prints which are known to alleviate general work/life stresses and increase attentiveness. This project is an exploration of shape and form within architecture, notably modernist structures with references to 80s Memphis design through vibrant hues and formations, combined with subtle hints of the natural world of which surround these. There is extensive use of bold colour to supply the collection with a sense of freedom and movement through her playful patterns. The collection has a variety of prints, some being screen printed statement prints with structural qualities and some full-content digital prints accompanied by more simplistic co-ordinate prints, all of which are printed onto cotton based fabrics for their durability. A vibrant colour story is injected throughout this project, her bold approach was something she felt could showcase her style as a designer. Jazz wishes to follow her passion for design and hopefully find a career within the Interior design/Print industry after having a successful placement year.
