Eva Wan

An interdisciplinary artist exploring the charms and absurdities of modern life.

Driven by a personal experience of observing shapes and patterns as a means to navigate new urban environments, my final project aims to subvert the habits of looking and experiencing interior spaces. It focuses on the overlooked characteristics of a room - its corners, its edges, its sheer volume - and aims toward a habitual sense of belonging whilst demanding to be acknowledged.

Relying on an interlocking system, the standardised units provide the opportunity to disassemble and reassemble new compositions endlessly together. This project, therefore, calls for a continual adaptation; the temporality of their existence asking for a constant refocus of the viewer’s gaze within new environments.

These ideas enabled the title of my final project, playing with and against the phrase:

'Part of The Furniture'

• a thing that has been somewhere so long as to seem permanent

• something so familiar that you no longer notice it
