Esther Gradwell

We have been unable to socialise for a prolonged period of time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore have been isolated from those we love. When the restrictions are lifted, though, many people are nervous about re-entering society. Eden seeks to strike a balance between the need to reconnect our mental wellbeing and any anxieties. Nature has become increasingly relevant throughout these times, providing a sense of peace and escapism for many people, and as a result, have a growing love for the natural world around us. In her moments of escapism, Esther has captured primary imagery of the natural elements around her, concentrating on textures and shapes. She's chosen colours that brighten up a room, without being overpowering, while still evoking a sense of nature. To instil a sense of relaxation as well as sociability, Esther has combined the serenity of nature with the pleasure of spending time with loved ones. She has focused on using primarily natural fabrics within this collection, linens, cottons and wools and by using natural dyes. She has created something that has longevity, designs that will be joyous and have a sense of belonging and openness for years to come: by creating a blanket of nature, providing a sense of security we are craving. The series is made up of a mixture of screen printed, digitally printed fabrics and wallpapers. This is intended for an outdoor and indoor social dining area within the home environment, creating a fluid yet balanced and adaptable collection for indoors and outdoors. Esther has created designs for spaces that will be cherished for years to come, that explores our newly adapted mindsets and mindfulness.
