Stills from the eZine
Featuring popups, lines of script, and graphics from the 90s-00s, the zine carves out a dialogue between the author and commentator.
Aneae Ishikawa Rodriguez
I’m Aneae Ishikawa Rodriguez. Identifiable by the coffee in hand, appearance of a part-time goth, and deadpan humour. My working practise often features banging my head on the desk 9-5, and jumping out of bed in the middle of the night to write down an idea.
The final major project conducted was a love/hate letter to the Graphics industry; an interactive e-Zine discussing the complex morality, application, and relevance of Graphic Consumer Design, providing the perspective of two anonymous narrators. The discourse explores the dynamics between a designer’s personal ideologies and intentions, and the allocated role of reconciling industry and consumer needs.
Deliberately uncomfortable on the eyes, the e-Zine features clashing colours, hideous fonts, and ugly graphics reminiscent of the ’90s, channelling the aesthetics of a genre known as ‘Vapourwave’.
Honest and often sardonic, the discussion is performative, yet understandably relatable. Consider it my love/hate letter to the industry.
