Allanah Koni

A painter who uses text and imagery to evoke thought and emotion.

My project is inspired by current events and consists of painting imagery that expresses themes of restlessness during isolation. In this body of work, I utilised some smaller canvas which I stitched together using embroidery thread to represent the days blending into each other. In my practice, I aimed to accomplish a collection of loose hanging paintings, with the stitch around them making them more tactile and homely.

To emphasise the narrative of dull existence, I use text in my work to convey thoughts, feelings and language that have been adapted during lonely periods of time. Choosing words that seemed to be embedded into everyone’s conversations alluding to the disruption caused by restrictions, I stitched them onto correlating paintings as a form of expression.
