Reco

Reco is a system designed to benchmark, log and compares muscular performance and fatigue data both pre-and post-injury. The system consists of a receiver, which connects to a pair of elastane shorts with embedded 'EMG' electrodes, and a docking station to both charge and stores the device. The project provided many exciting challenges, including the challenges associated with interfacing the electronics and hardware with textiles and fabrics.

Reco Receiver

The receiver device houses the signal processing hardware required to break down the raw signal picked up from the electrical activity from the muscles. In addition to this, speaker and haptic feedback modules are encased in order to provide the user with feedback whilst the product is in use.

Product in Use

Reco will be used during a pre-specified set of exercises, detailed within the smartphone application that will accompany the device. This ensures there is consistency in the data for each time it is used both pre and post-injury.

Functional Prototype

A functional prototype of Reco was developed in order to validate the feasibility of the ergonomics and functionality of the device.

I see myself as a motivated, versatile designer with a keen eye for detail.

For my final year project, I decided to explore how Electromyography could be implemented into an affordable product, to tackle the issue of recurring muscular injury in sport. I consider my strengths to lie in sketch development and CAD, and I aspire to create products that provoke deep emotional connections with users on a global scale.

Work Experience

From June 2019 to July 2020 I undertook a placement at Princess Yachts working as a CAD designer. Working amongst a large multifaceted team for a leading yacht manufacturer demanded great attention to detail, alongside the ability to communicate effectively across various disciplines, ranging from engineering to production teams. I consider these skills I have learned during my time at Princess Yachts to be key assets to take forward in my design career.
