REACT - A new system for controlling bleeding from a knife wound

In the year ending March 2019, 259 people were killed using a sharp instrument. In the majority of cases, the recorded cause of death is blood loss. It takes 10 minutes for an ambulance to arrive in London. It takes 5 minutes to bleed to death. With knife crime statistics at an all-time high, innovation is required to make the management of these wounds more accessible.

Life saving opportunity

The REACT system uses a patent-pending, inflatable Tamponade device that is inserted into the stab wound. The automated inflation of this Tamponade provides internal pressure directly to the bleeding site, controlling bleeding faster than current methods.

In the hands of those that need it

The Police are the first trained responders to the scene of knife crime. Designed in collaboration with the City of London Police and Emergency Medical Experts, the REACT system will fit seamlessly into the workflow of the first responders.

Tested and Developed

Physical prototyping has been used extensively throughout the project to test and validate technical features and HF touchpoints.

Designed for Manufacture

A detailed analysis has been conducted to streamline the product to current manufacturing methods.

Live Week Project - Porto.

Porto is the worlds first truly portable hemodialysis device, designed specifically for paediatric ambulatory hemodialysis. The playful design gives a child confidence to undergo treatment anywhere, improving their well-being and giving freedom to the caregivers.

Enjoy freedom

The dialysate fluid used in the blood cleaning process is regenerated to minimise the volume of fluid a user has to carry. This allows the flexibility of having treatment in a truly portable form factor.

CoVent - Response to the Ventilator Challenge

On my placement at TTP plc, I was fortunate enough to work in the Human Factors team, designing and testing the user interface of the CoVent. I also produced visuals that became the subject of global media attention with the project’s announcement.

Work Experience

My placement year at TTP plc opened my eyes to the complex and hugely important challenges that still obstruct medical advancement. During my time there I was fortunate enough to make significant contributions to projects on the cutting edge of medical research, my favourite being designing a processing device to aid a Cell and Gene Therapy for Cancer. I was also privileged to work on the Ventilator Challenge during the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020. I designed the look and feel of the user interface and helped user test and validate the operational procedures of the CoVent device. I also created visuals for the press association which circulated across media platforms globally.
