Car Access Aid for the Elderly
A render of the final product solution for a product that helps elderly people in and out of their car. An inflatable ring sits beneath the driver which, when activated, inflates and can be turned left or right by a winch that sits in the housing (mounted below the seat), pivoting the user's body out of the door frame. This makes for a product solution that fits universally across a range of cars and provides an effective and affordable way of making getting in and out of the car easier.
Elderly Car Access Aid Electronics
A working prototype was made for the car access aid, including all electronics which were mounted in the housing under the seat. The circuit included an inflation pump, worm-geared rotation motor and solenoid valve, controlled by four buttons in the controller through an Arduino Uno.
Elderly Car Access Aid Main Housing Layout
Getting all of the required components to fit in the small space under the seat was tricky, but a design of housing was established which achieved this. The final housing design was made in CAD and 3D printed, with all the components fitting in as expected.
Render of Elderly Communications Aid
Created based on a brief to design a product to help with improving relationships, this product is a video calling device designed for the elderly. Its simple interface makes it easy for elderly people to stay connected when they are unable to see friends and relatives. A sturdy base, clear screen and loudspeakers all make the experience of video calling possible for everyone, no matter how much experience they have with technology.
Sentinel
A product that helps protect classic cars from thieves, Sentinel fits on the car's steering wheel. Once installed and activated, motion sensors wait to detect any movement in the car. If there is movement, a loud alarm is sounded before a photo is taken of the thief. An alert is then sent to the owner with the image of the thief via an app that gives them the option of calling the police and sending the photo on.
