Armchair

Watercolour visualisation of 'Christo's Garden' armchair; 'Allium' hand-tufted rug and 'Jane's Stripe' wallpaper.

'Jane's Stripe' in Two Colourways

‘Jane’s Stripe’ is a design developed from abstracted mark making in my artwork of Christopher Lloyds garden at Great Dixter which is one of my mum Jane's favourite gardens.

'Allium'

'Allium' is an abstracted acrylic painting of Drumstick Allium buds, which I developed as a placement design for a hand-tufted rug.

'The Border'

'The Border' is a print inspired by the abstract marks and style of the interior artwork at Charleston House, developed from imagery of a blooming garden border. Digitally printed on velvet.

'Gilly'

The 'Gilly' print is inspired by the motifs on a ceramic pot given to my Grandma by her friend Gilly. It aims to embody the playful nature of the Bloomsbury style. It is a three-layer screen print on linen.

Anna Burke

I am an interior printed textile designer with a love for colour and maximalist pattern design. I aim to create spaces of joy and comfort with my prints.

My approach to design focusses on the process and development of imagery, beginning by capturing a space through photography, observational and illustrative drawings and paintings in order to distil the essence of the subject before refining these works to develop a pattern or outcome. I strive to retain the mark making and hand drawn quality of my original artwork as it translates to both digital and screen printed designs.

This project explores the importance of the outdoor space and how the garden surrounding my own home, as well as National Trust gardens that we have been granted access to over the past year, have provided me with inspiration and solace. I have aimed to celebrate these environments, creating bold and colourful interior print designs with an abstract nature, inspired by the work of the Bloomsbury Group at Charleston House and the charming and unique interiors they created there.

Work Experience

Imogen Heath Interiors. Dec 2019 - Aug 2020.

I worked as a design and studio intern for Imogen Heath, developing print designs for interior textile collections. This involved designing, painting, CAD design and editing for print runs. I also worked in the studio, sampling and image styling for online social content. This placement hugely improved my adobe and CAD design skills, which I applied to my design approach for my final collections.

Fairbairn and Wolf Studios. Sept-Dec 2019.

I worked as a screen-printing intern to produce silk printed samples. My roles included screen printing (from prep to trimming of samples); creating original artwork, hand dyeing backgrounds in solid and ombré colours as well as producing colour and print trend reports for future design. My practical studio experience has amplified my appreciation for the handcrafted process of textile design, in particular the physicality of screen printing.

Designers Guild. July 2019.

I worked with the Product Development team to edit designs and colour ways; studio organisation; exhibition and collection prep and filing. I also assisted the design and styling team in preparation for the Designers Guild A/W19 launch.
