Zero
Introducing Zero drinks, the new soft drink flavoured with British seasonal produce made in collaboration with The Paper Bottle Company (PABOCO). Born from the ambition to shift the perception of sustainability, Zero is more than just manufacturing a popular soft drink: it is a lifestyle. Zero aims to connect consumers with the benefits that seasonal and local eating has on our environment, health and wallets, inspiring a positive vision for a more sustainable future.
The Bottle
Made from paper, the bottles are embossed with branding making them easily recyclable and using fewer materials in the process. Each drink is branded with a punch of colour breaking out of the simple palette to not only grasp the interest of our consumers but to reinforce the flavour of each drink.
As Zero relies on the seasons, flavours change quarterly to align with what is being harvested. Therefore, Zero has been made with flexible branding to mimic the changing seasons. The different drinks identify as 01, 02, 03 & 04 to replicate spring, summer, autumn and winter. The brand name zero derives from our zero sugar, zero calories, zero-waste tagline and is how our brand is identified and followed online.
Activation
Zero aims to be the initial step towards encouraging seasonal and local eating in order to be part of bettering our environment. Inspired by the line, “Celebrating the season's guilt-free, feeling refreshed”, we want our consumers to enjoy the flavours that each season brings whilst understanding that by supporting zero they are having a positive impact on the planet.
Concertina Sticker
Each bottle has a concertina fold-out sticker attached to the top. This includes the information that is typically found on the bottle wrapper, however, including this on a removable sticker makes it easy to recycle. Furthermore, a concertina style fold invites the consumer to interact with the bottle encouraging them to read and unravel information on seasonal sourcing.

Activation
The branding of zero has been extended from the naming, visual identity and packaging all the way through to activation and launch campaign demonstrating a full brand seasonal story that resonates with consumers.
Poppy Swain
I enjoy building brands, designing visual identities and developing brand personalities that tell a story.
Most of my work falls into the category of branding and packaging. However, I like to experiment with how illustration and typography complement these disciplines. Branding is where my strengths lie and I enjoy the journey that this process takes me on, building a brand story that resonates with the target audience. The work that I do is backed up through research and findings to ensure that I position each brand appropriately whilst creating an impact. I chose to undertake the 'Zero Drinks' project as I believe that sustainability is such an important topic that needs action and therefore it appealed to me that my branding would be used as a force for good.

Work Experience
Whilst being at Loughborough University, I have completed several freelance logo and branding projects alongside my degree. Clients I have worked with have included Trelawny Surf Hire, The Crust and The Crown Pub & Restaurant. This has been an invaluable experience to me as it has highlighted the importance of effective and coherent communication, especially during the pandemic. It has also enabled me to get a flavour for professional work whilst working under a deadline.
It has been a good experience completing these projects as it has forced me to manage my time around university work, client work and also recreational free time. It has highlighted to me the importance of prioritising different tasks.
