Mulanje Iced Tea
Mulanje iced tea is sourced from the Mount Mulanje region of Malawi. This product combats key issues within the tea industry such as biodiversity, sustainability and worker rights by supporting smallholder farmers in partnership with the Malawi Tea programme. It also goes beyond Fairtrade, donating 10 pence for each can sold to the Malawi Bees for Development Trust to further support farmers and protect the natural biodiversity of the area.
Iced Tea Flavour Variety
I used an aluminium can for my iced tea product as it is widely and easily recycled. I was inspired by traditional African wax prints to create the patterns and colours for each drink. I wanted to reflect the culture of Malawi therefore the flavours I chose are also grown in the region to reinforce the origin of the tea.
Poster Collection
I created a collection of posters to further display the brand values of the tea. Each poster details the reasons for how the drink benefits, the workers, the planet and the consumer.

Sustainable Home Brew
I took a step further in regards to the sustainability of the brand, creating a loose leaf tea product. This encourages recurring consumers who drink and enjoy Mulanje iced tea regularly to brew their own at home instead. It is a more cost-effective and environmental alternative, giving an incentive to shop more sustainably.

Eco Vending Machine
To market Mulanje iced tea, I created a wood-clad vending machine that uses solar power to operate. I wanted the machine to have a natural and organic appearance to reflect the values of the drink and to also stand out in an urban space. As a new drinks brand, I wanted to bring the product to the consumer.
Lauren Allwright
This project was completed for the BrandOpus student award to create a new drinks brand with a sustainable story at its heart.
In my work, I really enjoy expressing important issues such as sustainability and environmental action through fun and exciting visual communication. After my degree, I see myself progressing into branding and packaging as I have really enjoyed these types of projects and feel this is where my strengths lie.
I really enjoy the research aspect of my projects and translating this into innovative ideas and visual material. For this reason, I partook in the Dissertation Module where I extensively researched how graphic design has played a vital role in environmental movements, achieving a 1st.
I have really enjoyed the past 4 years studying at Loughborough, helping to shape my work and I'm looking forward to see where this takes me after I graduate.
